The Challenge:

Canvast enlisted Creature Theory as their partner to craft a compelling brand story and visual identity for their hemp and cannabis brand. The challenge included developing the brand foundation and story, a visual identity, as well as a comprehensive system for their diverse range of packaged products. Canvast aimed to distinguish themselves from competitors in a crowded market and appeal to a higher-end, discerning consumer. With 20 years of experience in the cannabis industry, the challenge was to bring forward a visual identity and brand presence that would embody their professionalism and expertise, without losing the magic of the founders, the brand, and their products.


Execution:

Following interviews and conversations with the Canvast team, Creature Theory developed a brand foundation centered on the magic of Canvast and its role as a guide. This foundation set the road map for the creation of the identity and package designs. A contemporary and clean brand identity was established, followed by an expressive yet functional package design system. Custom icons for the three product categories, along with matching patterns and colorways, were developed to help consumers easily identify their purchases, and to guide them along the way.


Clean and contemporary branding allows Canvast’s naturally expressive products and deliberately colorful package designs to take center stage. Additionally, it communicates a sense of professionalism and trustworthiness when used in marketing touchpoints beyond packaging. The Brand Icon alludes to Canvast’s roots in the hemp industry as well as the mind and body altering nature of the products. It sets the visual design language used in icons to denote different product categorie - Lifters, Shifters, and Drifters(below).
