The Challenge:
Outer Banks Distilling came to Creature Theory for a total rebrand of their popular Kill Devil Rum series. Despite this award winning rum being hand crafted with premium ingredients by master distillers, the old branding leaned on coastal clichés that left the bottle looking cheap. It was time to break free of the tourist trap “treasure island” vibes and start fresh.
Execution:
Creature Theory began with a deep dive into legitimate historic references for both the place and the spirit type. With a trove of almost-true shipwreck stories to work with and a deep understanding of Caribbean rum making, we developed a package design that is impactful behind the bar and magnificent in hand. Special finishes leveraged include custom foil, unique label diecut and reverse label printing. Kill Devil Rum is already growing accounts now that it’s communicating an authentic Outer Banks ethos in conjunction with an ultra premium look.
